Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time to shine a light on the realities of childhood cancer and join together to make a difference for children diagnosed. CURE invests millions in critical research that will lead to safer and more effective cures for kids, and there are many ways you can help this month.

You can join the CURE Corporate Challenge, start a Facebook Fundraiser for CURE, collect change in a Coins4CURE coin drive, decorate your yard with a CURE Flag, or proudly wear our September t-shirt. Businesses across the country will be hosting fundraisers and month-long partnerships. We encourage you to support these businesses or start your own fundraiser.

Frequently Asked Questions

The goal of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is to shine a light on the issues and difficulties children face at diagnosis. President Barack Obama made the first proclamation in 2012 which created National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and made September a national health initiative. Since that time, charities, research organizations, state and local governments, and families affected by the disease have joined the effort to increase awareness of pediatric cancer and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.

Gold symbolizes a precious metal of the highest worth. There is nothing more precious and valuable than our children, so gold is the perfect color to represent childhood cancer awareness.

The gold ribbon is the symbol of childhood cancer awareness and can be found in the design of many things available for purchase in the CURE store. Our gold ribbon necklace or gold ribbon lapel pin are the perfect ways to wear the cause.

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children. If we believe that our children are as precious as gold, that fact alone should be a motivator to act. But today, research for pediatric cancer lags decades behind adult research and the U.S. government allocates only 5% of its research funding to cancers that affect children. This is where CURE comes in. CURE funds life-saving research that will impact the children not surviving today’s treatments and we are making a difference in the fight.

A problem as big as childhood cancer often feels overwhelming, but every little bit helps. The first thing you can do is share the need with someone else – make them aware. Awareness is a great thing, but of little value without action. This page is full of ways you can help children fighting cancer: Support a business that is supporting CURE, hold a fundraiser, sign up for Coins4CURE, the possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination.

If you have an idea for a fundraiser or a question, please email [email protected].

Take the next step to support research that will help save kids with cancer.
