Our daughter had a mole on the back of her knee that started to change and bother her. It was small and unassuming, but it was itchy. I personally had 2 basil cell skin cancers, so I was aware of the signs of moles that could be cancerous. I didn’t think it was a big deal, just a routine check with a dermatologist & removal if need be. I got the shock of my life when they called to tell me her tiny mole was melanoma cancer. And then again, when it was stage 2b, which was almost stage 3. Fast forward nearly a year later, she has been through several surgeries and hospitals, and the cancer is gone. She currently receives infusions every 3 weeks to reduce the chance of it returning. CURE Childhood Cancer has been absolutely amazing throughout our journey. My heart fills with joy thinking about the dedication these people have to treat, comfort & provide services to these precious children and families in the battle of their lives. I will be forever grateful for everything and everybody involved in making this journey for Sophie to be as easy and meaningful as possible. She has amazed us with her strength and positivity through every surgery and procedure she’s had. She’s my hero.
