My Hero is
Hunter

Hunter was diagnosed with a brain tumor, medulloblastoma, when he was 5 years old. After 2 years of radiation and chemotherapy, he was cancer-free. For 13 years, he lived a full and happy life. He had a great school experience and was the manager of his high school baseball team. He loved the LSU Tigers and Atlanta Braves. His favorite week of every year was going to Camp Sunshine with his Sunshine family. He had many, many MRIs over the years that continued to be clear. But during his Senior year of high school, a small “spot” showed up. He had a biopsy right after graduation, which, unfortunately, turned out to be a secondary tumor caused by the radiation that “cured” him when he was 5. This tumor was worse than before and progressed to a Glioblastoma. Hunter began treatment again with more radiation, chemotherapy, and several clinical trials. He passed away at the age of 22. He was our hero, and loved so much by us and his sister, Megan. He never stopped smiling and never lost his faith in God. He was such an inspiration! He has been gone now for 8 years, but we still fight to bring awareness for Childhood Cancer. He deserved more, and so do the kids who are fighting now and will be in the future! Treatments are needed to help find cures that don’t cause secondary tumors as well as many other side effects. Cure Childhood Cancer helps fund research to find cures! Help the fighters, survivors, and honor the memory of our Hunter and the others who have gone on.
