Karen Rutherford, Director of Patient & Family Services

Prior to joining CURE in 2018, Karen worked in recruiting and family experience roles at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. After her oldest daughter, Katie, was diagnosed at the age of 16 with rhabdomyosarcoma, Karen became very involved in the childhood cancer community. Katie is now a thriving survivor who recently graduated from Valdosta State University.

In her role, Karen has the privilege of heading up the Patient and Family Services team, which handles the Family Emergency Fund, Counseling and Bereavement Programs, the Open Arms Meal Program, and many other programs and services that assist families devastated by a childhood cancer diagnosis. Her goal is to do all she can to help move forward the mission of CURE until one day there are no other children diagnosed with cancer while walking alongside families who currently have a child in the battle.

Karen lives in Lilburn with her husband, Tony, and three children, Katie, Justin, and Carly.
