When a child is diagnosed with cancer, families quickly discover that the battle extends far beyond the hospital walls. One in four families loses more than 40 percent of their annual household income as parents reduce work hours or leave their jobs entirely to care for their sick child. Travel expenses, lodging costs, meals during long hospital stays, and basic household bills pile up relentlessly. Parents who should be focused solely on their child’s recovery instead face impossible choices between paying for treatment and putting food on the table.
Nick understood this reality intimately, and his role at CURE allowed him to address it by providing emergency financial assistance to families during their time of greatest need. He performed this work with thoughtfulness, dedication, and endless compassion, feeling genuinely honored to help ease their burdens during their most difficult moments.
After a courageous five-year battle, Nick passed away on November 13, 2025. To honor his memory and continue the work he found so meaningful, the Nicholas Geter Fund has been established to support CURE’s Family Emergency Fund. This fund provides critical financial assistance to families of children with cancer – helping them afford meals, pay bills, cover travel expenses, and meet other urgent needs while their child undergoes treatment. It’s the same program Nick devoted himself to, and it embodies everything he stood for: meeting families in their darkest moments and offering them both practical help and hope. The Nicholas Geter Fund ensures that Nick’s compassion, his understanding, and his desire to help others will live on, making a difference for families when they need it most.
