CURE volunteers give of themselves with selfless dedication and an unmatched commitment to help patients and their families. Frequently children with cancer have lengthy outpatient clinic visits and/or hospital stays, and CURE Family Support Programs help by providing several things for patient families. Prior to beginning any of these projects, please contact Nicolaus Griffith at [email protected], as there are specific instructions for each.

Meal Bags
CURE provides meal bags to alleviate the stress of meals for family members during hospital stays. These gallon-size Ziploc bags may include but are not limited to Soup, Chef Boyardee, or Mac and Cheese in microwaveable containers, pretzels, or other salty snack, applesauce pouch or fruit cup, microwave popcorn, cookies, and a napkin.
Snack Bags
CURE provides snack bags to patient families who have lengthy outpatient clinic visits. These quart-size Ziploc bags may include microwave popcorn, Chex Mix or other salty snack, applesauce pouch or fruit gummies, Life Savers or similar roll of hard candy/mints, and a napkin.
Toiletry Bags
CURE provides toiletry bags for families in the hospital with essentials to get through a few days. They are also included in each CURE Early Outreach Tote that is given by the Social Workers to each newly diagnosed family. These gallon-size Ziploc bags include travel-size shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, two toothbrushes, body wash, deodorant, and other items.
Boredom Buster Bags
CURE provides boredom buster bags to provide patients a little distraction from a day that can often be filled with tests, chemotherapy treatments, and boredom! These bags may include but are not limited to small Lego sets, Play-Doh, small stuffed animals, craft kits, card games, slime kits, puzzles, coloring/activity books, earbuds, portable speakers, etc. Bags are needed for both younger children and teens. These are merely suggested items, and we invite you to think creatively when assembling your bags.
CURE Family Pantry
CURE stocks a pantry so families in treatment have access to food 24/7. We are always in need of a collection of ramen, individual microwaveable meals, etc. Please email Karen Rutherford at [email protected] for a complete list of items needed and suggested quantities.
Pillowcase Project
CURE would like to provide a colorful pillowcase for every patient that’s checking into a hospital room at Scottish Rite and Egleston. Machine or hand-sewn standard-size pillowcases are needed in a variety of colors/patterns for young children up to teens. There are detailed instructions and tutorials on the internet for your reference.
Fleece No-Sew Blankets
The outpatient clinics and hospitals are generally kept at a very chilly temperature so cozy blankets are popular year-round with patients of all ages. Making no-sew fleece blankets in a variety of colors/patterns for young children up to teens is a great project for volunteer groups. There are detailed instructions and tutorials on the internet for your reference.
Fleece No-Sew Pillows
Patients of all ages benefit from having a comfort item in the outpatient clinic or while in the hospital. Small fleece pillows have been popular. Making no-sew fleece pillows in a variety of colors/patterns for young children up to teens is a great project for volunteer groups.
