“My family was first inspired to learn about CURE after reading a feature in our local newspaper about an 8-year-old child from our community who was diagnosed with a relapse of Stage-4 Neuroblastoma for which there was no known cure. Her unforgettable, courageous words were ‘Cancer, I’ve beat you once and I’m gonna beat you again in the blink of your evil eye.’ She fought hard, but sadly lost her young life to cancer and her family requested that all donations go to CURE.
Touched by the story, my daughter reached out to CURE and learned about the lack of research and funding for childhood cancer. She assembled a small team for Lauren’s Run to raise money for important research. Each year since then, we have participated in this inspiring event, recruiting more runners and boosting fundraising goals. Seeing the hope, strength, and unity of childhood cancer community and others coming together to make a difference has made us humbly grateful for our health and compassionate for families whose lives have been turned upside down with the reading of a test result.
No child should ever have to hear that there is no cure for their disease. No child should ever have to live with the serious long-term effects from enduring toxic treatments. We can do more for children and I am honored to be part of a wonderful organization that is committed to finding breakthrough treatments and cures and helping afflicted families as they navigate the harsh realities of childhood cancer.”
