Can a Meal Really Make a Difference?

Lucas’s 16th birthday was doomed to be less than he’d hoped for – it is 2020, after all. But while he and his classmates faced quarantines and virtual learning, Lucas was also dealing with excruciating pain in his leg. Instead of celebrating with family and friends, Lucas spent the day in the hospital where he received a diagnosis that changed his life. It turned out that the pain in his leg was actually a rare bone cancer called osteosarcoma and Lucas was forced to spend the next several weeks in the hospital for chemotherapy and surgery. During that time, he and his family met CURE.

“Between the cancer and pandemic, I was overwhelmed,” Lucas’s mother, Michelle said. “I felt like I couldn’t decide one more thing – and then CURE was there serving meals and that gave me one less thing to worry about.”

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, CURE is able to help families devastated by a childhood cancer diagnosis in tangible ways. Your gift allows us to remove some of the burdens of cancer so families can focus on their child’s future.

As the year comes to a close, consider the power of a shared meal and what it can do to encourage and sustain a family fighting cancer… a family like Lucas’s.
