Every year, we celebrate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month during September. There is so much going on during the month that our staff, partners, and volunteers stay busy all thirty days. We loved the constant events and activities and watching so many people get involved in the fight for children with cancer. Whether you bought a gold bow, hosted an event, or donated your time, you were a big part of September’s success! We would like to share a little of what you did.

CURE’s Kids

Each day in September, CURE shared the heroic stories of children who have been diagnosed with cancer. At the same time, these brave families fight back, setting a goal to raise at least $1000 to support life-saving pediatric cancer research. This year the families of 108 children shared their stories. You responded and together CURE’s Kids raised more than $270,000!

Mailbox Bows & Flags

All across the state, mailboxes were adorned with this beautiful gold bow. Homes also decorated with flags in the Savannah area. Mailbox bows & Flags created awareness for those passing by and joined communities in the fight against childhood cancer. They also raised a lot of money as you bought 5,318 bows and 1,824 flags for a grand total of $208,166.

Coins4CURE

Coins4CURE is a very simple coin drive fundraiser. This year there were 91 coin drives that took place either in person or virtually in 13 different states. The coins are still being counted, but the current total for 2021 is $75,000.

Golf Tournaments

Three golf tournaments raised money for CURE during September.

The 31st annual Golf Classic benefiting CURE was another rousing success, with more than 180 golfers participating at The Oaks Golf Course in Covington. We were also the beneficiaries of the 6th annual Mary Elizabeth Memorial Golf Tournament in Perry and the HRAF Charity Golf Tournament in Villa Rica. All told, these three tournaments raised more than $160,000 for CURE!

September Partners

Businesses, organizations, restaurants, and schools joined us in many ways during the month. Our partners did amazing things to raise money in the fight against childhood cancer including, proceed nights, gold-out games, a book signing, alpaca yoga, a martial arts fight, and more. Restaurant partners served chicken salad, chicken sandwiches, cookies, burgers, sushi, donuts, ice cream, and many other dishes that benefited CURE. The total amount raised will be more than $200,000 when all the funds come in.

Facebook Fundraisers

Your birthday matters! 213 people celebrated their September birthdays or marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by creating a Fundraiser on social media for CURE. Thanks to their efforts, you raised $34,716 through Facebook and Instagram.

All of the little actions that happened in September made for a big total! You may have thought buying a $25 bow was a small thing. But combined with the actions of others, the total is quite large. Taken together, we will use this generosity to fund research projects that will help kids fighting cancer, as well as support families in the fight so they know they aren’t alone!

On behalf of children and families in the fight, we can’t thank you enough for all you did to raise awareness and critical funds in September.
