Savannah/South Georgia CURE September Events

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!  CURE Childhood Cancer has several events planned for our area.  Hope you can join us!

  • CURE partners with Memorial Hospital in Savannah for an Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 7th at 4:00 pm. We will meet at the fountain at the main entrance to the hospital to turn the fountain gold by adding a gold duck in honor of a survivor or in memory of a loved one.   You can have your face painted while eating yummy ice cream!   Wear your favorite CURE t-shirt or something gold in honor of all children diagnosed with cancer.  For more info please contact


  • Toraya Jai Garvin 5K Walk and Kid’s Party will celebrate September in memory of Toraya Jai Garvin and other children in the community who have battled cancer. The Toraya Jai Garvin Foundation ( is hosting the event and donating half of the proceeds to CURE.  In addition to the Walk, there will be face painting, gold nail painting, music from a DJ and a band, a Be The Match Bone Marrow Drive, a Red Cross Blood Drive and other fun activities.  The walk will be held at the Oglethorpe Mall on Saturday, September 16th from 8 am – 10:00 am with the Kid’s Party beginning at 10:00 am and ending at 1:00 pm.

  • Tee Up for Veta Golf Tournament and Family Picnic – Join CURE for our first Tee Up for Veta Tournament at Bacon Park Golf Course. Sign up to play golf with a team or come enjoy face painting, a bounce house, and a picnic lunch with your immediate family.  Bacon Park Golf Course is located at 1 Shorty Cooper Rd, Savannah, GA.  Event will begin at 8:30 am with the fun concluding at 12:30 pm.   • Red Fern Goes Gold – Come join Team Alexa and CURE at Gnat’s Landing Restaurant in Red Fern Village on Saturday, September 30th at 6 pm for dinner and family fun. We’ll have a band, food and drinks, a raffle, bounce house and face painting.   We’re inviting childhood cancer families to also join us for dessert at Wake Up Coffee from 7:30 pm -8:30 pm.
